Downham Lodge![]() The Lodge is particularly suitable for those who wish to have a fairly high level of independence. Residents are encouraged to build their own programme, including for example voluntary work, training courses, hobbies and leisure activities. Although there is an appraisal system in place, residents are encouraged to arrange support outside the house, for example AA, ARP groups or personal counselling. The recommended length of stay for residents is about 18 months, with a maximum imposed by Supporting People funding of 2 years. Therefore, residents are expected to explore housing options and work on areas of resettlement and move-on in preparation for the next stage in their lives. Staff visit the Lodge regularly, including occasional sleepovers for extra security, and there is a House meeting every Monday morning. CRITERIA FOR APPLICANTS: - To have completed a first stage rehabilitation programme. - To have been sober for a minimum of twelve weeks. - Usually between the ages of 25-60 - Committed to abstinence from alcohol/drugs. - To have sufficient life-skills for high level of independence, for example cooking, cleaning, shopping, budgeting etc. - To be motivated to organise activities and support outside of the house.
