Volunteering Opportunities Each year, 6 or 7 young Christians join the Trust for about 9/10 months – normally after they have completed a University degree or during a "gap" year out of education, prior to going to University or to commencing their career. Volunteer help during the Summer months is also very important to us as well, for periods of 4 - 8 weeks. Sometimes people use this as an opportunity to change the course of their career completely, gaining valuable skills and experience in an entirely new area of work. Equally, others use it as an opportunity to gain a whole new experience of life. We greatly rely on these Volunteer Project Assistants who help tremendously in various aspects of our work. Assistants are paid "pocket-money" and live in our staff accommodation with board and lodging provided free. Time for God and Careforce, two Christian organisations, have in the past introduced us to people who wish to serve in this way for a year. Assistants joining us now, would work in Acorn House, the Drop-In Centre, the Hanbury Community Project and our Charity Shops. It is very varied, and each year, assistants tell us that it has been brilliant. So if you know of anyone who might be interested in working with us for a year, encourage them to get in touch with us. There is a great deal of contact with clients and residents, and the opportunity to get alongside, befriend them and work with them in a variety of practical ways, that is very rewarding and life enriching. There is no doubt that this proves to be a very valuable learning experience for the usually, but not exclusively, young people that join us. |
